POGL Updates for September 2026

Dear Protect our GarCo Libraries (POGL) Supporters:

POGL Endorses 6B

First, Protect Our Garfield County Libraries warmly endorses 6B, the Maintain Our Garfield County Libraries mill levy extension coming up in this year’s ballot. We urge a YES vote. Without any increase in taxes 6B will ensure that the library does not lose $1,000,000 each year in revenue. It merely continues existing payments--about $38 on the median assessed value of a Garfield County home. While Maintain Our Garfield County Libraries is a separate organization, its goals are perfectly aligned with ours. Keep our libraries strong!

4 Asks from the campaign

  1. The Yes on 6B campaign needs volunteers to stand outside your local library for an hour and hand out promotional bookmarks and/or flyers to people leaving. You can pick up those flyers at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon, or the Rifle Branch Library on Monday, Sep 21, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or contact jlarue@jlarue.com. This is an easy way to appeal to existing library users and let them know their support is needed. What are the best times to catch people? 1-5pm with Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the busiest days overall. But whatever you can do is appreciated.

  2. The committee is looking for supporters who live in high traffic areas to agree to post some library signs. These are pricey, and the committee is still raising money. So they may only be able to produce maybe 5 signs for each of the six towns and people need to see them. Interested? Email jlarue@jlarue.com to request a sign.

  3. Donations. It was estimated that the campaign would need about $25,000. The committee has gotten about a quarter of the way there. If you want to contribute, head here.

  4. Finally, the campaign is still looking for endorsements. If you’d like to do that, check out this form.

The good news is that this push doesn’t need to last long. Mail ballots will start going out the first week of October. The election is done on November 3. The more challenging news: that timeframe means library supports need to act now.
